Homemade Easter Chalk Melts

By now most of us are experiencing warmer weather and more sunshine and that can only mean one thing: Spring is right around the corner. So to celebrate we wanted to work with our good friends at Imperial Sugar to share with you a fun and easy Homemade Easter Chalk Melts recipe.

Wait, did I just say chalk melts? Yes I did and it’s going to become your child’s new favorite way to use chalk! Plus, there is a secret ingredient to these!

Many of us have seen fun activities such as ice painting or chalk painting so I thought why don’t we do something that involves the idea of chalk but is perfect for warmer weather? And that’s when I came up with this idea to make chalk melts and we totally made them in fun bunny shapes just in time for Easter!

What You Will Need to Make Homemade Easter Chalk Melts:

• 3/4 Cup Plaster of Paris
• 2-4 Tablespoons Tempera Paint (in a variety of colors)
• 1/4 Cup Imperial Sugar Extra Fine Granulated Sugar (this is that secret ingredient)
• 1 Cup Cold Water (make sure it’s cold)
• Bunny Silicone Mold (or any other shape you want to use)
• Large Mixing Bowl (a cup works well too)
• Spoon or Mixing Stick

How to Make Homemade Easter Chalk Melts:

1. Start by placing your sugar into a large bowl or cup.
2. Next, add your chosen color of paint and mix well.
3. Add your cold water and stir until the entire mixture is smooth.
4. Now add your plaster of paris. You want to stir until you do not see any major clumps.
5. Pour the mixture into your mold filing each cavity entirely. You can repeat the steps above for different colors.
6. Place the mold into the freezer overnight.
7. When ready to use, pop out the chalk melts from the mold and head outside for some fun! Note: these do get messy and since they are melts they are supposed to melt away during use.

That’s it! Because of the sugar these have more of a vibrant color to them and they have a smoother appearance than chalk. I think these are perfect for Spring but Summer too when the temperatures are hot and your kids need a fun and cool way to stay occupied!
