Pretzel Pop Snakes

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/1AfiYqe Pretzel Pop Snakes

If your kids think snakes are cool, then they are going to love making these Pretzel Pops Snakes. They are a fun snack to serve at a  jungle themed  birthday party, for an outing to the zoo, or on a camping trip. Each pretzel pop is made by dipping a pretzel rod in candy coating then it’s decorated using Fruit Roll-Ups and candy eyes.

Ingredients:

10 pretzel rods

10 ounces  yellow-green Candy Melts (confectionery coating wafers)*

1 red Fruit Roll-Ups

4 green/blue Fruit Roll-Ups

20 – 3/8 inch round yellow candy eyes

*I used Wilton’s Caramel Apple Candy Melts because they are a yellow-green color which I liked for the snakes. You can purchase any color Candy Melts you prefer or melt and color white Candy Melts using candy coloring.

Supplies Needed:

tall glass

spatula or spoon

parchment paper lined baking sheet

pizza cutter or kitchen scissors

optional, a small “Y” alphabet cookie cutter

Instructions:

Pour the Candy Melts into a tall glass. Heat on high for 30 second increments, stirring after each until melted.

Dip a pretzel rod into the candy coating. Use a spoon or spatula to spread the candy coating up and around most of the pretzel.

Set it on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Spread candy melts over any exposed pretzel. While the candy coating is still wet, attach two candy eyes to one end of the pretzel.

Cut the snake’s tongues out of Red Fruit Roll-Ups either using kitchen scissors or a “Y” shaped alphabet cutter. Attach the tongues to the underside of the pretzel using some candy melts as glue. The tongue should stick out under the eyes.

Cut stripes or triangles out of the blue and green Fruit Roll-Ups. One side of the Fruit Roll-Ups is stickier than the other. Press the sticky side onto the pretzels, wrapping the stripes around the pretzel or placing the base of the triangle at the bottom of the pretzel and wrapping the point around the top of the pretzel. If the pieces wont stick, brush them lightly with water to make them sticky.
