In fact, with this baby foil painting art activity, the messier the better!
Have Messy Fun with Baby Safe Edible Finger Paint
Your baby will absolutely love finger painting on foil, and you’ll capture some great photos to make you laugh for years to come.

Baby Foil Painting Materials:
- Tin foil
- Plain or vanilla flavored yogurt
- food coloring
How to Make Baby Safe Edible Finger Paint Prep:
First, I whipped together some super easy edible finger paint.
My baby is still in the stage where she puts everything in her mouth, so I wanted to make sure this art activity was safe for her.
Here’s my recipe:
- Scoop about two tablespoons of yogurt into small bowls.
- Place a few drops of food coloring in each bowl.
- Mix to make instant edible finger paint in any color you choose!

Foil Painting Prep:
After I made the finger paint, I set up the painting area for my baby.
It was a gorgeous day out, so I decided to do our painting on the back porch. I laid down a big towel on the ground.
You could set up in a high chair. For me, it was just easier to throw a towel in the washer than wipe down every inch of a high chair after painting.
For more texture and sensory input, I crumpled up a piece of tin foil, then spread it back out on the towel.
I placed the bowls of baby safe edible finger paint within reach, and we were ready to paint!

She dove right in! My baby really enjoyed rubbing her toes and fingers on the crumpled tin foil.
She dipped fingers (and toes) in each bowl, and then eventually experimented with dumping the finger paint on the tin foil.
Like I said, this baby art activity is super messy, but so much fun!
