Garlic Basil Butter is easy to make and so very delicious

I always start my semi-homemade herb compound butters with fresh ingredients.  It makes all the difference in the flavors.  I use salted butter, but if you prefer, you can use unsalted and add your own to taste.  Compound butters will last a long time in the freezer.  They are great to make when you have a lot of fresh herbs that need to be used up. I stock up on butter when it’s on sale and store it in the freezer as well.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups salted butter, room temperature
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 6-8 large basil leaves, finely chopped

Here’s how to make Garlic Basil Compound Butter:

Add the butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment.  Whip the butter until smooth and creamy.

Remove from the mixer and add the minced garlic and chopped basil.  Use a spatula to fold the garlic and basil into the butter.

Spread the butter mixture onto a piece of parchment paper about 4 inches long, by 2 inches wide.  Roll the butter up in the parchment paper to make a long. Refrigerate until firm before cutting into slices.

(Alternatively, you can also transfer the Garlic Basil Compound Butter into an airtight container such as a mason jar).

Use the butter to make amazing garlic bread and tasty pasta dishes.  It’s even good on grilled chicken.

This Garlic Basil Compound Butter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or in the freezer for 3 months. That is, if it lasts that long!
