Candy. Candy. Candy. Is your house full of it this season? If you are looking to do something creative with the treats your kids have collected, these DIY candy necklaces are a lot of fun.
In our family we make Fridays really fun. Our Friday fun day is a tradition we have established since the beginning. It’s the one day we offer sugared cereal. We do pizza movie night in the evening. The kids arrive home from school, and there is no homework or chores – only play.
This past Friday, I thought it would be fun to make these DIY candy necklaces and bracelets that the kids could wear and enjoy during the movie. Were they a little sticky? Yes. Are they full of sugar? Yes. I think it’s important to let go of the typical mom role and embrace the sticky fun to create memorable times with your family. If you are concerned about clothing, let your kids wear and eat these in old grubby clothes or just run around without a shirt on for a time. Trust me, the candy jewelry won’t last long.
DIY Candy Necklaces
Here’s what you need to make DIY Candy Necklaces:
- Candy with Holes – Life Savers, licorice, Sour Straws, Peach O’s and Twizzlers were our choice.
- Elastic Cord
Making Candy Necklaces and Bracelets
The instructions are rather simple. Let kids thread their candy onto the elastic cord. You might need to cut the licorice or Twizzlers into smaller pieces.
The kids can make a pattern or do a more random design. Tie the elastic cord into place and let the kids enjoy their creations.
If you are a kid at heart, and love candy activities, you might also show making your own rock candy skewers or making Lifesaver lollipops. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the amount of candy and want other alternatives, here are 10 other ideas of things you can do with the Halloween candy.
