Lasagna Noodles can be used for more than just cooking; Alisha shows us how they can also be used as a fun art project for preschoolers, too!
This super creative painting activity will give your toddler or preschooler an opportunity for abstract painting on uncooked lasagna noodles. Kids LOVE painting on objects that normally have a different function.
You only need to gather four supplies for this painting activity:
- Uncooked lasagna noodles
- Washable Kids Paint (affiliate link)
- Paintbrushes
- A painting tray, baking sheet, or painting surface
- Optional: glitter
The set-up is as simple as the supply list.
After you have gathered your supplies; simply lay out the noodles in the painting tray (I used three noodles), add some paint, and provide some paintbrushes.
You may want to have your kiddo wear a painting smock (affiliate link) or a shirt that you don’t mind getting paint on.
This isn’t a very messy activity, but somehow the paint always ends up in random places, doesn’t it??
Depending on the age of your child, you may want to tape down the noodles or just let them hold them in place while painting for a little extra hand strengthening.
Let the painting begin!
As my kiddos used up their paint, I just added more onto the tray.
I encouraged them to paint as much of the noodles as they could so that their noodles would be really colorful.
I also showed them different methods of painting with the brush (i.e. swirls, dabbing, swishing) to add some more design.
Once they were finished painting, we added some rainbow glitter as a finishing touch… because sparkly is just fun!
Mess-free tip: wait for the paint to dry and then dump the excess glitter off the noodles before displaying.

Now, you may be wondering what to do with your kiddo’s noodle painting once it is done; well, here are two fun ideas:
You can create a noodle name tag by writing your kiddo’s name over his or her painting. I suggest using a dark permanent marker. Then display it on near their activity area, on an easel, or just on the kitchen table.
You could also grab a piece of card stock (affiliate link) and some hot glue to glue some of the painted noodles onto the paper. This will create an easy option for displaying your kiddo’s artwork on a window sill, wall, or bedroom door.
Sure, you may never look at lasagna noodles the same again, but you’ll have created memories and some neat artwork with your kiddos!
