My kids made this Back to School Pencil Vase Craft for their teachers this year. Isn’t it so cool?! With back to school supplies on sale at stores, right now is the perfect time to purchase the main item for this back to school craft–pencils, colored pencils or crayons! Better yet, your kid’s teacher is going to really appreciate this vase towards the end of the school year when no one can find pencils…just pop one off and that student is ready to learn. That’ll probably be my kid. Kidding/not kidding.
Have you seen these cute Back to School Felt Heart Pencil Toppers? Your kids will have so much fun making these!
This Back to School Pencil Vase Craft would be great to fill with pretty silk flowers, but candies, gift cards, or other treats would be equally nice. You’ll want to use adult supervision with younger kids for this craft, because a hot glue gun is involved. You could probably also just make this pencil vase craft yourself if you have younger kids and wrap it up for your kid to give to their teacher. My elementary school age child did just fine, but he’s had lots of practice.
Back to School Pencil Vase Craft
What you will need:
- 15-20 No. 2 pencils with erasers
- 1 clean and dry tin can (sand any sharp edges)
- Hot glue gun with glue sticks
- Something to fill the pencil vase craft with (silk flowers, candies, treats, gift cards, etc)
Directions
First, hold a pencil perpendicular against the tin can so you can see where you need to put the glue on the pencil. Mark with a pencil or marker if you need to. Eraser goes towards towards the bottom, if your pencils have erasers.
Next, run a bead of glue along one edge of a pencil in a straight line.
Immediately press against the tin can. Press for a few seconds. Repeat with the remaining pencils.
Fill with flowers or your teacher’s favorite treats.
I’m hoping this Back to School Pencil Vase Craft helps get our school year off to a great start!
