As I began the journey of creating The Activity Room as a place to provide parents (and even grandparents and childcare providers) with achievable activities that they can do with their kids at a moments notice, I knew it was more than just that.
I knew it was going to be more about the members in the community and us joining together and lifting each other up, motivating and inspiring each other to do these wonderful things with our children.
Realizing this, I want to give you a little glimpse of what the wonderful members are like inside The Activity Room.
This month’s Room Member of the Month is Tabitha.
Let’s meet Tabitha!
How many kids do you have? 2 kids. A 7 year old and a 3 year old.
How long have you been a member of The Activity Room? Since the beginning! (Which was in June of 2016).
What is your favorite activity you’ve done in The Activity Room? Our favorite activities are any of the sensory activities (a tub of Cheerios, rice, shaving cream, wet newspaper, etc). They are activities that I wouldn’t normally think of to do but they are some of their favorites. They play and explore them for a really long time and will often ask to do them again.
What’s your favorite thing to do with your kids when you get a few moments? Both of my kids love snuggling together to read books. We also love coloring together and doing simple craft projects. It’s amazing that the simple ones make them just as happy as the more complex ones.
What’s your best tip for doing activities with your kids? Flexibility. Sometimes, my kids don’t want do to exactly what I had in mind for the activity but they have a different way to play, explore and learn. It is okay to follow their lead! Also, sometimes, for unknown reasons, kids just aren’t into a certain activity. Try it again in a few days or weeks and they might love it!
Tabitha has shared an activity with Penne noodles and play dough in March’s activity plans found in The Activity Room.
