My favorite kind of hands on creating is process art. I am always looking for fun and different ways for my boys to create unique pieces of art to display in our home.

 If you are like me, a mom who is always attempting to organize, you may have one or two (or more!) baskets on hand in your home.

They are so great to have when you need them!

In this case, I thought it would be fun to have my boys use the baskets as their canvas instead of regular paper and paint them.

They were thrilled when I mentioned the idea to them. After all, it is not every day that they get to paint on baskets, right?!

Painting on baskets allows them to explore and create with different colors, patterns, and textures.

This activity has a very easy set up that took me only a few minutes.

You will need:

• Plain baskets (If you do not have any on hand, any thrift store will carry them for the price point of $1-2)
• Acrylic paint (affiliate link)
• Paint brush
• Bowl of water

I chose a variety of colors and then let my boys choose which ones they would like to use.

Encourage them to be creative as they would like. It is fun to see what they create!

My four year old decided to go with more of a splatter look and experimented with a variety of colors and mixing right away.

My six year old decided on one color at a time. Look at that tongue of concentration!

He made a pattern with long brush strokes and stripes which he then wrapped them around the entire length of the basket.

They both decided that they would also like to decorate the handle of the basket too!

When finished, let the basket dry completely. You can use your finished baskets for many different reasons.

My oldest chose to use it to hold some of his very favorite books at the moment in our play room.

A unique but functional piece of process art that is displayed in our home!

Since we did this activity just before Easter, my youngest decided he wanted to use it as his Easter basket!

You could also use your painted basket instead a gift bag to hold a gift for a birthday party.

Such a unique and personal touch that your child can give to their loved one!
