A Sample Weekly Plan of Science Experiments for Kids

hands on : as we grow http://ift.tt/1GtYzli

Every weekend I try to make a plan of activities for the coming week to start on Monday.

I start with the gauging what my child is interested in (using the “My Child This Week” sheet of the free weekly planner). I fill one out for each of my kids and what they’re into at the moment. I use this as my guide to plan our activities accordingly.

With each of my kids’ interests, I brainstorm 7 activities to do that week. I jot them down on the simple ‘Activities To Do This Week’ planner.

Below is a sample week of science experiments for kids.

5 weekly plans of activities for each one year olds, two year olds, and preschoolers (plus a learning one too!)

A week of science experiments for the kids to do

Monday: Using items from the pantry, do an experiment to see what dissolves in waterSupplies: clear jars, spoons, pantry items (spices, etc)

Tuesday: Experiment with milk. Pour whole milk into a shallow dish. Drop in food coloring. Dip a cotton swab in dish soap and hold it in the milk. Watch it swirl! Supplies: shallow dish, whole milk, food coloring, cotton swab (q-tip), dish soap

Wednesday: Collect various objects of nature in a muffin tin. Pour water into each section to see what absorbs water and what doesn’t. Supplies: nature, muffin pan, water

Thursday: What floats? Fill a tub with water. Have the kids collect toys, or nature, to see what floats and what sinksSupplies: clear tub or bucket,  toys (waterproof) or nature

Friday: Make a lava lamp. Fill a glass bottle 2/3 with water and 1/3 with oil. Add food coloring. Add spoonfuls of salt and watch it bubble up! Supplies: clear jar, water, vegetable (or other clear) oil, salt, food coloring

Saturday: Fizzy experiment! Drop colored vinegar into a tray of baking soda using eye droppers or turkey basters. Supplies: vinegar, baking soda, food coloring, eye droppers, turkey baster, baking sheet or tray

Sunday: Fill two jars with colored water. Connect the jars into a third jar with paper towels (fold into a strip). Watch the water ‘walk’ and spill into the empty jar. Supplies: three clear jars, water, food coloring, paper towels or toilet paper
