Save your spice jars for this simple toothpick activity to work on fine motor skills!
I always have large containers like this. But always thought it was something we had, and it wasn’t something that you would normally find in your house. I get them from the bakery as large sprinkle containers (affiliate link, so you can see what I mean).
And then, the other day, I used up the last of my taco seasoning (affiliate link again so you can see). I buy it in the nice big container and realized that my mom always buys her spices in big containers too! So others must have these handy containers with lids on them that have little holes to poke things through, right?
Do you have containers like this handy?
They’re just begging to be played with!
I rinsed ours out and let the kids have fun! We found some toothpicks to poke through them and shake back out.
But they didn’t really shake out too well, so George and Louis unscrewed the lid and dumped them out. (Which is also a great fine motor skill to learn, by the way).
Practice screwing with nuts and bolts, or drawer knobs!
We’ve done something similar to this in the past using our sprinkle containers. Those have even larger holes so pipe cleaners worked perfectly for them!
Of course, the boys fought over the one spice container we had. We’ll definitely be saving any we use in the future!
I can’t wait to use it for water play!
