With this No Fail Tortilla Recipe you’ll be whipping out homemade fresh tortillas in no time. Our no fail tortilla recipe uses the magic of Bisquick (or other baking mix) to make soft, delicious tortillas every time. In fact, I often tell my friends if they try this recipe a couple times and still can’t make fresh tortillas to just give up and by them prepackaged from the store.
If you love tortillas as much as we do, then you should try our Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup that you can make right in your slow cooker.
Tips to use with our No Fail Tortilla Recipe is the hottest water that comes out of your tap and to allow them to rest for 20-3o minutes before you shape them. They should also be as flat as possible and while you could use your hands to do that, why go through all the extra work when you can pull out your rolling pin and use it? Smother these in honey or butter for a snack, fry and coat in cinnamon and sugar for a delightful dessert, or use them in your favorite taco or fajita recipe.
No Fail Tortilla Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups Bisquick or other baking mix
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- scant cup of HOT water
Directions
In a mixing bowl mix together the Bisquick or baking mix and all purpose flour.
Slowly add the hot water while stirring just until the dough forms a ball. I use a stand mixer for this step because it makes life easier. You could also use a hand mixer, but then you’ll have to knead by hand for the next step.
Knead dough for 2 minutes in a stand mixer OR knead by hand until dough is smooth and uniform. Allow to rest for 20-30 minutes, covered so the dough doesn’t dry out.
Heat over medium low a heavy cast iron skillet, comal or a griddle, and cut dough into even pieces. I cut mine into 8 equal pieces. You could cut into 10 with this recipe.
Roll out with a rolling pin as flat as possible.
Cook for 30 seconds on the first side and 1 minute on the other side. Do not over cook. Do not under cook. You’ll get the hang of it after one or two tortillas.
As you finish cooking each tortilla, cover stack with a clean towel to keep warm. This No Fail Tortilla Recipe is so good that you’ll need to hide the tortillas from the kids until ready to use.
