It’s hard to believe that the end of another school year is upon us. I’m reminded again of how fast time goes by.
As a mom, it’s easy to look back over the school year and see all of the skills that a child has learned and developed. It’s fun to see the things that have been taught in the classroom.
What’s even better to see is a teacher who has inspired learning in your child; a teacher who has built and nurtured skills that will last throughout your child’s life.
With the end of the year on the horizon and Teacher Appreciation Day coming up, we decided to create a Teacher Appreciation craft that my daughter can give to her teacher.
It is just a small gift that shares how much she appreciates her teacher’s positive impact on her school year. Creating crafts with my daughter is a special time for talking about the important things.
While we were crafting together, we chatted about her teacher and the reasons that she is so appreciative of her.
It was a great way to reflect on the school year and all that my daughter has learned as a result of her teacher’s guidance. I loved that my daughter has had such a great school year.
When we found out that our sponsor SONIC Drive-In has donated $5 million to date to local public teachers through the Limeades for Learning campaign, we were excited to talk about her teacher and so many other inspiring teachers.
This May, in honor of Teacher Appreciation Month, SONIC is launching #ThanksTeach to thank teachers for all they do. For every RT, share or use of the hashtag across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, SONIC will make a donation to public school classrooms, totaling up to $1 million this month.
SONIC Drive-In has become an advocate for teachers with its Limeades for Learning program and partnered with DonorsChoose.org to provide teachers with funding to inspire creativity in their classrooms, and it’s just in time for Teacher Appreciation Month!
Teacher Appreciation Butterfly Craft
This craft as easy to put together and used only a few materials:
- Pink card stock paper
- Small pieces of blue card stock paper
- Black marker
- Colored pencils
- Rubber band
- Pipe cleaner
- Tape
- Glue
To make the Butterfly Teacher Appreciation Craft:
Show your child how to trace their hands on the large piece of card stock. You’ll need two hand tracings.
Have your child to cut out the hand shapes.
Next, they can use the black marker to write on the fingers of the hand shapes. We wrote out reasons that my daughter appreciates her teacher.
This is a good time to chat with your child about the school year. Take a minute to reflect back on memories of the year.
Ask them questions about how their teacher made their school year special. Your child can write those thoughts out on the card stock. Use their words of gratitude and share them with the world! Use #ThanksTeach to thank your child’s teacher for their personal commitment to learning and their classrooms. Doing so can help fund local teachers across the U.S!
Next, cut small shapes from the second card stock paper.
We cut hearts, but you could cut any shapes.
Glue them onto the hands.
Glue the hands together with the thumbs up.
Using a rubber band, gather together colored pencils.
Create a small “dough nut” of tape and secure the colored pencils to the center of the butterfly.
Use the pipe cleaner to make antenna for the butterfly by wrapping the pipe cleaner around the colored pencils and bending the ends.
Try wrapping this gift up in homemade gift wrap for a sure way to make that teacher smile!
Teacher Appreciation Gift Idea
This Teacher Appreciation gift would be perfect for gifting on Teacher Appreciation Day or at the end of the school year.
We thought the colored pencils on the craft make a nice gift idea for teachers after we learned that every year, teachers spend more than $1 billion of their own money on school supplies. There are no other professions that require employees to fund their work personally. So, why not gift school supplies that the teachers can use the following year?
We all have had memorable teachers and it’s nice to see that my daughter’s teacher has gotten through to her so well this school year.
During the month of May, use #ThanksTeach to thank your child’s teacher for their personal commitment to learning and their classrooms: just snap a photo of something your child has learned because of their teacher, or make something for them and share it! For every RT, share, or fan use of the hashtag, SONIC will donate to public school classrooms, up to a total of $1 million during Teacher Appreciation Month in May. Teachers deserve it!
