Love turning recyclables into playtime? Francis shows us a cute upcycled clock that uses old bottle caps and help your preschooler learn to read time!
Learning the position of the numbers on the clock face is a great way to know more about clocks and telling time.
We made this easy upcycled clock with leftover bottle caps. This fine motor activity is fun to make, fun to play with, and looks pretty too.
My favorite part? The kids can also control with how the clock hands move!
Old bottle caps make this upcycled clock for a color matching clock for preschoolers.

What you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Card stock (or upcycled cardboard — but an adult will need to do the cutting)
  • 12 bottle caps (any size and color)
  • 2 Straws
  • 1 Push pin or sewing pin
  • 12 different colors of paint
(these non-toxic acrylic paints have SO many colors – affiliate link)
  • Marker

Making the Upcycled Clock:

To make the clock shape, we traced around a large bowl onto card stock. Melissa put her scissors skills to practice by cutting out the circle. She did a great job!

Next, Melissa made 12 circles on the card stock by tracing around the bottle caps we were going to use as the numbers. I helped to show her where each circle would be.

We chose 12 different colors of paint and she painted the 12 bottle caps, one of each color.

While waiting for the caps to dry, she also painted the circles on the card stock with the same color paints… because painting is just fun!

She cut the straws for the clock hands – once short and one long. I used the push pin to hold both straws together in the middle of the clock. On the back side of the clock, I bent the pin flat, so it would stay in place and hold the clock hands as they moved. (If you’re concerned with the sharp pin on the back, just cover it with a piece of duct tape.)
Once the caps had dried, we used a marker to write numbers from 1 to 12 on each one. Each numbered cap matched the position of the colors on our paper clock.

Our clock was ready!

Playing with the Upcycled Clock:

Melissa enjoyed matching the numbered bottle caps on the clock. She used the colors and also the order of the numbers to place them in the right spaces.
The straws were a big hit too! She liked turning them and pointing at different numbers.

I love that this activity challenges her color matching skills, since the 12 colors force her to learn beyond the primary and secondary colors.
She can also be hands-on with adjusting the time to match the clocks in our home, which is so much more helpful for learning time than just looking at a clock!

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/1HLjFrS 30 kid friendly ways to organize your bathroom

Kids spend a lot of time in the bathroom when they are little, and we spend a lot of time in there with them, bathing, brushing, potty training– you name it.

20 Kid-Friendly Ways To Organize a Bathroom

Isn’t it funny that the bathroom is likely the smallest room in the house, but is the most used?  So much to do, so little space!

bathroom toy storage

BATH TIME AND TOY STORAGE

If you don’t want a spend a fortune on expensive bath toy storage, these baskets are perfect. (I love this because it’s cheap enough to just throw away if it gets too funky!)

A hanging basket keeps toys  neat, and looks adorable if your kids are like mine and insist on having the shower curtain open at all times. (Because of  tub monsters, naturally.)

You can use a second shower rod to hang toy storage down low and make it easy for kids to reach!

Mr Bubble Organize Your Kids Bathroom Sink

HAND WASHING AND THE SINK

If your kid is anything like mine, the soap is a big deal, and this lego soap is one of the coolest bathroom tricks around.

If your kids are having trouble reaching the water, check out what you can do with a Mr. Bubble Bubble Bath bottle!

You know all those individual hand sanitizers your daughter collects from every single girl’s birthday party she goes to? Here’s an awesome way to store them!

Add a pull out step stool to your bathroom. This is probably the greatest invention in the history of all time for any parent who has ever tripped over a plastic Dora the Explorer step stool while just trying to pee in the middle of the night.

This built in nightlight is amazing. I have one in each of my bathrooms, and it took about five minutes to install.

Slippery hands mean soap can end up everywhere, so try this DIY soap pouch instead.

Organize Your Potty

TOILETS, DIAPERS AND POTTY TRAINING

Potty training can be a pain if you don’t have everything you need at your fingertips, so plan ahead with potty training essentials basket.

You can keep your diapering supplies  on a cute little cart. Adorable.

Need a super simple changing table that you will actually use? This one can be made for under $30!

And if you have boys, you might want to try this not-so-subtle reminder for raising both lids.

Spray paint a dinosaur to hold your toilet paper. Awesome.

toothbrush and toothpaste tricks and storage tips

TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTHPASTE STORAGE

Use a plastic toy to make a crazy cute toothbrush holder. Everyone will be jealous. Everyone.

Keep toothbrushes separate with this simple pvc pipe system.

Or you can even just use plastic cups hung inside your cabinets. Genius.

If your kids make the biggest mess ever squeezing  toothpaste (mine still does, and she’s nine) then this DIY toothpaste dispenser is just what you need.

towel storage ideas

TOWEL STORAGE

This is a great way organize your towels and toothbrushes all in one place!

Add ribbon to your towels with this easy tutorial to make it easier for little hands to hang up!

Want to know who is leaving their towels in the floor? Solve this problem with color coded organization. My mom used to do this. I was pink, she was purple, my brother was blue and my dad was green. Everything she bought was in our color– towels, toothbrushes, hangers, storage containers. That way we knew what was ours without having to think about it!

how to store hair accessories

HOW TO STORE HAIR ACCESSORIES

Are headbands all over your house? Repurpose a spice rack to hold them!

Or you can use an old oatmeal container to store headbands. Brilliance.

Hair bows and ribbons are meant to be pretty, so store them in clear storage containers  to add a pop of color to your bathroom!

Stick hair ties on a carabiner to  keep them together!

Cookie jars also work!

Are your hair ties everywhere?  just throw them on the doorknob. So smart.

Use a silverware tray to keep all the hair accessories sorted!

Use these adorable printables to remind your kids to flush and wash their hands!

And these subway art printables for keeping your bathroom green  are cute enough to hang in a guest bathroom!

Classic Craft Stick Box Craft

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/2oKOQQl

Kids of all ages will have fun making classic craft stick boxes. This frugal craft is entertaining, fun, and useful. Finished boxes make thoughtful gifts for Mother’s Day, birthdays, or Father’s Day.

Classic Craft Stick Boxes

Classic Craft Stick Box Craft

When I was a little girl, I enjoyed using saved popsicle sticks to make crafts. I don’t save popsicle sticks anymore. Instead, I buy a monster-sized box at the craft store so my kids can create monster-sized projects. This colorful orange, blue, yellow, and purple craft is my son’s most recent creation.

To Make This Craft You Will Need

  • wooden craft sticks
  • white school glue
  • paint
  • paintbrush

Directions

After gathering supplies, invite kids to begin glueing and stacking craft sticks together to form a square.

Classic Craft Stick Boxes

When they feel satisfied with the height of their box, invite them to glue craft sticks all along the top. This will actually become the bottom of their box when it’s dry and flipped over.

Classic Craft Stick Boxes

As their box is drying, show kids how to make the lid. Simply place two crafts sticks on the bottom, then glue craft sticks all along the top. Glue a little wooden knob to the top of the lid. Allow the lid to dry completely.

Classic Craft Stick Boxes

While the box and lid are drying, kids can get ready to paint!

Classic Craft Stick Boxes

Paint the box and lid. My son used a bunch of colors to give his box and lid a swirled, rainbow appearance.

Classic Craft Stick Boxes

Allow the paint to dry. If desired, seal the paint with Mod Podge or clear acrylic spray.
