This easy to make fingerprint heart card is a great card to make as a homemade gift for Mom this Mother’s Day.

The sun is shining brightly, and I can finally say Spring is in the air. Mother’s Day is always a sure sign of that!

Flowers are starting to bloom and the first thing that comes to mind is all you wonderful mom’s out there that deserve a huge pat on the back.

Mother’s Day is the one day of the year that should make us all feel special and appreciated. (Although, unfortunately, sometimes it has the opposite effect!)

This simple, easy prep Mother’s Day craft is so sweet that it will probably leave a tear in your eye.

Simple Fingerprint Heart Card

To make your own fingerprint heart card you will need:

supplies you'll need for this homemade gift for mother's day

First, cut a heart shape out of the contact paper and then stick it to the cardstock, or canvas.

This is going to be your paint resist technique.

Next, I let my kids choose their own paint colors. They got super excited to do this!

They both chose the the colors of the rainbow as rainbows are their favorite, right now.

This made the craft feel a lot more special to them.

Let your child use their finger to paint fingerprints all over the cardstock.

Simply have them dip the tip of their finger into the paint color of their choice, and dab it on the paper. Over and over and over again.

They can definitely dab more than once before getting more paint on their finger.

Yes, this part can get a little messy but it’s so much fun.

Encourage your child to trace the outline of the heart.

Painting with fingers is an amazing sensory activity that my kids love to do.

The squishy, slimy feeling of the paint makes them giggle.

One fingerprinting tip is to have a wipe handy.

If your child is anything like my oldest, she didn’t want the colors to mix at all.

She was able to clean her finger on the wipe each time she wanted a new paint color to make a fingerprint with around the heart.

My youngest, on the other hand, thought it was super cool to mix the colors.

Gotta go with what they like!

When your child is done painting, lay it out to dry.

Once the fingerprint heart is dry, peel the contact paper heart off to reveal the finished product.

At this point, both girls were super excited to see how their fingerprint heart paintings turned out.

I must say, I was excited too!

To add a finishing touch, we wrote the following quote in the middle of the heart.

“A mother’s heart is always with her children.”

A mother's heart is always with her children quote to add to a fingerprint heart card the kids make for Mother's Day.

The kids were so proud when I read them this quote.

However, my oldest instantly said that she would like to give it to her dad… so we changed the quote a bit to fit this.

Maybe it’s not just a homemade gift for Mom… but Dad too.
