Practice color recognition and learn more about colors with these interactive books and activities. These books are all fun on their own. But, the additional activities add to the experience.

I love books that encourage participation from the kids, which is why I love interactive children’s books!

Interactive Books and Activities about Colors

What do the colors blue and red make when mixed together? What about blue and yellow? Learn all about colors with these fun interactive books and activities.

Interactive Books about Colors

Mix it Up! by Hervé Tullet (ages 3-5)

Mix It Up! An interactive Book for learning colors.

This is a great book to use when working on color recognition as it’s full of fun learning activities.

Kids will have so much fun tapping, counting, and “mixing colors” within this book they won’t even realize they are learning.

Blue and yellow make green. Blue and red make purple. Red and yellow make orange. What happens when they add white to the colors? What happens when they add black to the colors?

The Game of Red, Yellow, and Blue by Hervé Tullet (ages 3-6)

The Game of Red, Yellow & Blue. Interactive book to learn colors.

This book is a great follow-up to Mix It Up! by Hervé Tullet.

Can you guess which colors are the parents of purple, orange, and green are before turning the page? Can you recognize the circle, square, and triangle shapes?

White Rabbit’s Color Book by Alan Baker (ages 3-6)

White Rabbit's Color Book. Super cute book to help learn colors.

This book isn’t necessarily considered an interactive book, but it is still one of my favorite books about colors. Easily turn it into an activity to learn colors.

Follow white rabbit as she jumps into three different tubs filled with paint. What happens when she jumps into the yellow tub and then the red tub? She turns orange! After a shower, she is ready to jump into red and blue. What color will she be then? Purple! After another shower, she jumps into the blue and yellow tubs to turn…green.

Some questions to consider while reading this: Why do you think she takes a shower? Would she have still turned orange (or purple or green) if she hadn’t been a white rabbit to begin with? What color will she be at the end when the shower no longer works and she has jumped into all three tubs?
