No matter the time of year, my kids love playing with water.
A bucket full of water and some kitchen utensils keeps them occupied. Usually long enough for me to do the dishes, eat lots of cookies, or go to the bathroom without anyone joining me. You know, important stuff like that.
You’ll love these easy water activity ideas!
I took advantage of the nice weather and their love for water play. We set up a super quick outdoor pretend play beauty salon for them!

Gathering the supplies is the only preparation necessary for this outdoor pretend play activity. Super easy!
After collecting everything, I handed the items to my kids and said “Hair you go!” And then they stared at me blankly.
Seems they don’t love bad puns as much as they love playing with water.
Make sure you have a towel handy in case anyone is a little sensitive about getting wet.
As predicted, spraying and squeezing the water “hair spray” and “shampoo” was a big hit.
A bucket of water and a small craft paintbrush became nail polish and makeup. They loved it!
They say this is what I look like while doing my makeup.
A chunky stick I grabbed out of the backyard became a curling iron. I fully expect to see this beauty tool on Shark Tank. Or at least Survivor.
I love brother’s face here as he “curls” his sister’s hair with the stick.
Extend the Pretend Play Beauty Salon activity!
Encourage your kids to really get into the imaginative component of this activity. Prompt them with questions such as “What is the special occasion?” and “How do you want your hair done today, ma’am?”
You could also do this indoors any time of year. Put down some big towels to catch the inevitable drips of water, unless your floor needs to be mopped anyway. ;)
Both kids said that they would love to do this again, especially on a really hot day!
