7 super simple gross motor activities that are perfect for fall! These physical activities are sure to be winners with your kids this autumn!

We like to move around here. I guess that’s what two boys do. And I’m sure it doesn’t just apply to boys either!

It’s also great for them to be doing, so I encourage it. (It usually makes bedtime go easier too!)

These autumn activities are something physical to do outside before it gets too chilly, or bring the fun indoors too!

You can work on gross motor skills while inside on a rainy or snowy day!

Bonus Gross Motor Activities You Can Also Do in the Fall

While they’re not really ‘fall’ related, they’re very much movement related. And they kind of steal my heart by using tape (have you seen our sticky spider webs?) and by doing big art. Not to mention this scavenger hunt gross motor activity can be done outdoors any time of year including fall.

Capture the colors of fall with this super simple leaf suncatcher craft for kids.

Display your beautiful tissue paper leaves all season long!

Capture the colors of fall with this super simple leaf suncatcher craft for kids. Display your beautiful tissue paper leaves all season long!

What is your favorite part of fall? For me, it’s the fall-colored leaves we get here in Iowa!

I love all the reds, oranges, and yellows. So much beauty!

I just had to incorporate those colors in our latest simple fall craft.

Supplies for Tissue Paper Leaf Suncatcher Craft

You can make your own leaf suncatcher craft with tissue paper leaves just like we did with these supplies:

  • tissue paper (red, orange, and yellow)
  • wax paper
  • scissors
  • Mod Podge
  • paper plate
  • paint or foam brushes
  • table cover
  • permanent marker (optional)
  • paper (optional)

Leaf Suncatcher Craft Set-up and Prep

I did a little bit of prep work before calling the kids to the table. It seemed to make the process easier.

First I gathered all of the craft supplies for the leaf suncatcher.

Next, I stacked the tissue paper and cut it into strips.

No worries about them being straight or the same width!

From there I tore out rectangular sheets of wax paper and folded them in half.

Then, it was time to call the kids to the table and explain the leaf suncatcher craft.

Make Fall Color Collages on Wax Paper

My daughters got right to work cutting the tissue paper.

But, of course, they had to do it their own way!

One cut triangles. The other cut smaller strips.

I waited as they had cut the amount of tissue paper they wanted for their leaf suncatcher crafts.

Then they painted the Mod Podge on one half of the wax paper.

(I had poured the mod podge on a plate so it was easier to reach.)

Next, they added their tissue paper pieces.

Their fingers got a little sticky in the process, but the Mod Podge held the tissue paper in place.

Next, they painted the other half of the wax paper with the Mod Podge.

Then, we flipped the halves together.

Lining up one end with the other end was a little tricky. But we did it!

This tissue paper craft was coming together and I could see the leaf suncatcher was going to be beautiful.

They pushed on the wax paper to make it smooth (and get rid of excess Mod Podge).

My daughter thought her strips looked like a large Fruit Roll-Up.

They wanted to make another one right away.

This time they did squares and torn up pieces. I love the variety!

Then, we let the craft dry for a little bit before turning them into a leaf suncatcher. A perfect time to work on a different fall activity together!

Cut Out Your Suncatcher Leaf Shapes

I was worried about free-drawing a leaf directly on the wax paper. I didn’t want to ruin their masterpieces.

So, I cut a leaf out from a different piece of paper.

We used that as a template to trace the leaf on to the wax paper.

As you can see, I stuck with a very basic leaf shape!

From there, my daughters each cut out their leaves.

The Mod Podge wasn’t 100% dry, but it seemed to work fine for us.

Display Your Leaf Suncatcher Craft

Then came the biggest challenge – figuring out where we wanted to display this leaf suncatcher craft!

We ended up taping them on the window next to our front door.

They seemed to sparkle when the sun shined through.
