{Halloween Party Drink} Fog Drinks

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/1fX7Aai Spooky Fog Drinks

A Halloween party drink should be a little eerie and a whole lot of fun. That’s what makes these fog drinks perfect for some holiday fun.

Spooky Halloween Party Drink

Halloween Party Drink

You’ve got your child’s Halloween party planned.

Spooky decorations?  Check.

Awesome costume?  Check.

Yummy treats for guests to eat?  Check.

But what about that little something to really “wow” your guests and make the party special?

Add a spooky fog drink!  It’s easier than you think.  I promise.

Here’s what we used to create these spooky fog drinks:

Fill your glass with your spooky drink first.

Add gummy worms or other creepy crawlies to the edge of the glass for an extra spooky effect.

Halloween Fog Drinks Witches Brew

Witches Brew

The final ingredient for your foggy witches brew is to add in a few small pieces of dry ice. Our dry ice came in a big brick and we had to chip pieces off of it. Use tongs to handle it or gloves if you must pick it up with your hands. It is very, very cold.

Watch the children’s eyes grow wide with amazement at what you have just created.

You can even use beakers to create a Mad Scientist Potion. Cool, right?

Safety Tips for Working with Dry Ice

  • Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide gas that we exhale every time we breathe. The foggy smoke is not harmful.  Of course, if you will be using large amounts of dry ice then be sure to work in a well ventilated area to keep good oxygen flow in the room.
  • Dry ice is much cooler than regular ice and can give you a freezer burn if you touch it directly so wear gloves when working with it.  It will sink to the bottom of your drink so either wait until fog clears to take a drink or just sip the drink from the top without letting the dry ice actually go into your mouth.  Don’t eat solid dry ice.  It’s way too cold for your body!
  • Store dry ice in an insulated cooler, not your freezer.  It is colder than regular ice and will slowly melt in your freezer.  As it melts, it turns from solid carbon dioxide to gaseous carbon dioxide and the air pressure in a confined area of your freezer will increase and could cause damage.
  • Buy your dry ice as close as possible to when you plan to use it as it is difficult for you to keep it cold enough to remain solid for more than 8 hours or so in a home environment.

Easy Lunch Idea for Kids: Sandwich Faces

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/1FkTfLI Easy Lunch Idea for Kids: Sandwich Faces Featured Image

What mom couldn’t use an easy lunch idea for kids with a new school year right around the corner? Turn a plain ol’ ham sandwich into a fun activity and let little ones create Sandwich Faces!

This simple idea can even work if you’re looking for snacks for picky eaters. Choosing food that your child enjoys will make it that much more fun to use their imagination!  We partnered with Nature’s Own, a Kid’s Activities Blog sponsor, to bring you these cute sandwiches your kids will love!

Easy Lunch Idea Sandwich Faces

Easy Lunch Idea for Kids

When packing a school lunch, we make sure to use quality products that taste great. There’s nothing worse than opening a lunchbox to a soggy sandwich! That’s why we choose to serve Nature’s Own breads to our family. We tried three different varieties: Nature’s Own Butterbread, Nature’s Own Honey Wheat Bread, and Nature’s Own 100% Whole Wheat Bread.
Nature's Own Bread

I trust the quality of Nature’s Own breads because they contain no artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors, and no fructose corn syrup. My family loves the Honey Wheat Bread, but any variety will do for this easy lunch idea.

Here’s what you need to make Sandwich Faces:

  • Nature’s Own bread
  • Lunch meat (we used smoked ham and black forest ham)
  • Swiss cheese, sliced
  • Cheddar cheese, sliced
  • Vegetables (sliced olives, bell peppers, cucumbers, pickles, and tomatoes work well!)
  • Other snacks like pepperoni, pretzel sticks, etc!
  • Cupcake liners

Cut cheese into circles and other shapes to create the base for the eyes and mouth of your face. Place meat and cheese between two slices of bread and package if you are sending as a school lunch.

In a smaller container, separate vegetables and snacks using the cupcake liners and add to your child’s lunchbox. Now they have everything they need to make a fun sandwich face!

Assembling the silly faces is really easy — my son had so much fun using all of our different pieces to make our creations!

Lotsa Color Activities for Preschoolers & Toddlers Too!

hands on : as we grow http://ift.tt/1JLFwms

Learning colors seems to be one of the first things that toddlers and preschoolers grasp.

I don’t know the technical, or developmental approach to learning colors, but I do know a lot of fun ways to foster learning colors for toddlers and preschoolers! We have done so many color activities!

Color activities for preschoolers to recognize the differences in colors, activities that sort by color plus magical color mixing activities!

Color Activities for Preschoolers (& lots of ’em)!

From color activities that help preschoolers recognize the differences in colors, labeling them and so forth, toactivities that focus on sorting by color and then getting into the fun of what happens when colors are mixed!

Whatever the stage your preschooler (or toddler) is at…

Lotsa Color Recognition Activities for Preschoolers

Color Recognition Activities for Preschoolers

Recognizing anything is the first step to learning. By recognizing colors, preschoolers are learning to see that there are differences in colors. While this may be basic for some preschoolers, many toddlers know their colors, these color activities are more advanced that preschoolers will have a blast with them!

Lotsa Color Sorting Activities for Preschoolers

Sorting by Color Activities for Preschoolers

Sorting by color is an extension of color recognition in my book. But these color activities are ones that particularly focus on actually sorting the colors from each other, dividing up two or more.

Lotsa Mixing Colors Activities for Preschoolers

Mixing Color Activities for Preschoolers

Learning colors doesn’t have to be just recognizing them! It becomes magical when you start mixing colors together! Take any two of the three primary colors at a time and try any of the following activities to learn what color they make together!

Now, how’s that for some fun color activities for preschoolers? There’s so much more going on than just learning colors! And they won’t even know it, its so much fun!

Keep the learning fun for preschoolers!
