I decided to focus on the numbers one through ten. To set up the paper for matching, I used a plastic lid to create ten circles roughly the same size as the balloons.

Inside each circle, I drew dots to match numbers 1-10.

Next up was blowing up the balloons for the number matching game.

To include and engage your child even more in this process, have them help you blow the balloons up – it will get them even more excited to start the activity!

Once I had my ten balloons, I numbered them with my marker and taped them to our activity table.

This allowed him to work at an uninterrupted pace vs. having to pause and add tape to each balloon before he matched it.

Easy DIY Early Math Learning Game for PreK Kids

He was so excited to play this simple number matching game with balloons.

First, I set the challenge: try to match each numbered balloon to the dots/circles on the paper.

He needed to recognize the number on the balloon, count the dots, and then move the balloons onto the circles. It’s a multi-step activity, but it’s all about the process and learning.

While he played, I noticed that he started with the smaller numbers first that were easy for him to recognize quickly and then worked his way up.

This activity allowed him to practice his counting skills out loud while matching the correct number on the balloon.
