How We Create Cranky Kids

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/1QC9rQB

We as parents have quite an effect on our kids when it comes to their attitude on life. I know I’ve struggled with this!!   Here are some ways I have created cranky kids.

5 Ways We Create Cranky Kids

  • We planned too much for one day. Was that trip to the store on the way home from soccer REALLY necessary? Kicking myself for that outing!  If possible, stick to your little one’s daytime schedule as much as possible to avoid mid-afternoon meltdowns.
  • Not enough active play time. Sure, kids need to learn to sit still, but your little one may be acting out due to pent up energy more than anything else.  If I were cooped up in a carseat for an hour in traffic I might go bonkers too!
  • Bad attitude. I’m not talking about the kids here, ME! Sometimes we don’t realize just how much our mood affects our kiddos. If I’m having a bad day, then it’s more than likely my little one will, too.  Happy moms tend to have happy kids (so self:  stick a smile on!).
  • Late bedtime. Kids need much more sleep than we do. Sure, they come bounding into our room at 6am full of energy, but since that is the case, they also need a bedtime much earlier than ours. Staying out late can turn my little Miss Sunshine into a tiny terror the next day.
  • New environment. Vacations are fun, but oy!  The kiddo may not enjoy all the new surroundings and a lack of familiarity.   Being away from home can bring out the worst of all of us!

While each little one is different, many kids have legitimate reasons for their melt downs. Once you have figured out the reason behind it, maybe you can join me in responding with a smile and trying to avoid the trigger… tomorrow is a new day.
