This knock-down activity shared by Emma of P is for Preschooler can be used for learning many different concepts, including sight words, numbers, letters and so much more! Adapt it for your child!
I’m convinced that my 6 year old daughter Kay could learn anything if we bring out cars and trucks to do it with.
So, as she needs to learn sight words for school, one of the activities we’ve been doing is this fun one!
We used:
- Pool noodles
- Index cards
- Remote control car
I cut the pool noodles into chunks, making sure they were tall enough so that the car would hit them, not just roll over them. Then I made slices in the side. I wrote some of her sight words on index cards and slid them into the pool noodles. Perfect little stands.
Now for the fun part.
I set everything out ahead of time, so Kay came out of the house to find our driveway covered in sight words and her remote control truck waiting for her. She was excited to get started. (When learning causes grins like that, we’re doing something right!)
Got a child that loves vehicles? There’s more to do with ‘Things that Go’!
I would call out a word and she would find it and speed the truck to run it over. For good measure she’s backup over the word again. (Poor pool noodle!) Then on the next word.
We did each world a few times and then she just had fun using the pool noodles as bumps in the road. Well, at least they are multi-purpose!
