Applesauce Fruit Roll-Ups

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/1lThvAS Apple Sauce Fruit Roll Ups

You just need one ingredient to make  applesauce fruit roll-ups — and I bet you can guess what it is! This is seriously the easiest snack ever to make, and my kiddos gobble these up!

Perfect for school lunches, you can make a big batch and store in an airtight container until you need them.

Here’s what you need to make applesauce fruit roll-ups:

  • Applesauce
  • Parchment paper
  • Silpat (optional, but makes it *so* much easier)
  • Baking sheets
  • Twine

Place the silpat on your baking sheet (or line them with parchment paper).

Pour a layer of applesauce onto the sheet, then spread evenly. You can also shake the pan to flatten the applesauce into an even layer.

Bake at 170 degrees F for 6 to 8 hours. You aren’t really cooking the applesauce — you’re basically just dehydrating it. If you need to leave the house, just turn off your oven and leave the applesauce inside. Turn it back on when you get home. Easy, peasy!

We like to make several batches (as many as the oven will fit) so we don’t waste energy.

Once the outer edges of the applesauce have hardened, your fruit roll-ups are ready. If you cook it for too long and the sheet of applesauce is brittle, don’t panic! Just rub some water onto the top of it, and it will become pliable again.

Remove the fruit from your silpat and transfer to parchment paper. Use sharp kitchen shears to cut the fruit into two-inch strips. Roll them up and secure with twine.

You could also use pureed fruit to make your own fruit leather. It’s just as easy! We also like to bake apple slices to create dried apple chips. Super yummy!
