This Valentine’s Day craft from Hands On As We Grow contributor, Francis, is a great fine motor activity that works on weaving and yarn wrapping.

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to make cute Valentine’s day crafts and also to take the time to tell people you love them!

This year, we decided to make a special “Who Do I Love?” message board to share drawings and messages with each other for Valentine’s day.

Make a sweet Who Do I Love? Message Board craft with the kids for Valentine's Day!

Here are more Valentine’s Day crafts that are just plain cute!

Supplies Needed:

  • Craft Sticks (affiliate link)
  • Yarn
  • school glue
  • Scissors
  • paper (any kind)
  • Markers

Making the Valentine’s Day Message Board Craft:

To start, I made a heart shape with ten craft sticks and Melissa glued the tips together. If you also have older kids doing this activity, try asking them to make the heart shape!

While waiting for the heart to dry, we talked about who she loved and would like to display on her Valentine’s Day Love Craft.

I cut some paper heart shapes for her — but next time I’m thinking I’ll hand over some blunt tip scissors (affiliate link) so she can have a little cutting practice of her own.

Here are some other great ways for preschoolers to practice cutting!

Next, she used the markers to draw a person on each one, representing the people she loves. If your child is working on writing skills, they could also write names or letters representing the people they love.

It was nice to chat about what she loves in her dad, mum (me!) and little brother. She decided she didn’t want to be left out, so she also drew a picture of herself on an extra heart!

She cut a large piece of string and I tied the end of it to the craft stick heart. We worked as a team to wrap the yarn all over the heart and I tied it off when we finished.

Melissa tucked her drawings into the heart, weaving each one through the yarn to keep it in place.

All four drawings fit great, and there’s plenty of room to add more all month long.

I tied a short piece of string to the top of our message board Valentine’s Day craft to hang it on the wall.

It’s so pretty to hang up on the wall for Valentine’s Day, or even to decorate your kids room!

What did your kids draw or write on their paper hearts?
