Nativity Handprint Salt Dough Ornament

Kids Activities Blog https://ift.tt/2rusaao

Help kids learn the “reason for the season” with a Nativity Handprint Salt Dough Ornament.

My absolute favorite thing during the holidays is bringing out all of our handmade Christmas ornaments and hanging them on the tree. And some of my favorites are handprint salt dough ornaments.

DIY Nativity Salt Dough Ornament - Handprint

There are just so many different ways to create handprint holiday crafts . But this Nativity Handprint Ornament might just be my favorite.

Nativity Handprint Salt Dough Ornament

Here’s what you need to make this Nativity Handprint Salt Dough Ornament:

    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 cup salt
    • 1/2 cup warm water
    • Acrylic paint
    • Toothpick
    • String

Mix the flour, salt, and water together in a large bowl to form a dough.

Roll the dough flat and press your child’s handprint into it. Cut around the edges and use the toothpick to make two holes into the ornament to use to hang it.

Allow to air dry in a warm place for 48-72 hours. You can also bake the ornaments at 200 degrees F for 3-4 hours to speed the process.

Once dry, use the acrylic paints to color the ornament. We colored the palm brown to look like the hay with Baby Jesus on it and then each finger was a shepherd/wise man. You could have your child paint the ornament for an even more precious keepsake.
