We love to celebrate and learn about history. But with little ones, historic holidays are hard to handle – which is why I love this easy President’s Day preschool art collage and writing prompt!
Patriotic President’s Day Preschool Art Activity
My kids really enjoyed DIYing their own collaged stars and stripes! I loved how silly simple this activity was to prep. Win-win!
You’ll also love this kid-sized American flag craft!
For this President’s Day preschool art project, you’ll need:
- art paper
- watercolors
- scissors
- glue
- writing utensils
First, we created our own red and blue paper. My kids love painting with watercolors, so this was the perfect way to add bright colors to the collage.
We painted a square of red and a square of blue. We made ours about medium-sized, but you could paint as much red or blue as you’d like!

Next, we cut out the painted sections of paper. We left the blue as one big square and cut the red into a bunch of strips.
Once the colored paper is prepped, glue the pieces down to represent the shape of the American flag.
It doesn’t have to be exactly like the real flag, an abstract can be fun! Get creative!

Add a Little Bit of Writing for a Challenge
Finally, I gave my son a simple writing prompt: “If I were President, I would…”
His answer? “If I were President, I would make everybody love.” How sweet!
He’s currently in Kindergarten, so this easy writing prompt was just enough to get him started. For older kids, you can add challenges or more details as necessary.
