Jellyfish in a Bottle

Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/1ZvzCPK Jellyfish in a Bottle

My son is obsessed with the ocean, so we made a Jellyfish in a Bottle as a fun preschool activity. This floating jellyfish moves in the bottle just like it’s in the ocean! So cool!

It’s just one more way to explore the ocean inside!

Here’s what you need to make a Jellyfish in a Bottle:

  • 2 liter bottle with label removed
  • Iridescent film paper
  • Rubber band
  • Scissors
  • Blue food coloring
  • Water
  • Glue
  • Skewer

Gather the film paper so that the center creates a bubble shape (this will be the jellyfish’s head!) and cut the bottom of the paper into long thin strips. Remove the excess paper so that there are between 5-10 “tentacles.”

Add a bit of water to the jellyfish’s head (you don’t want to fill it completely) and then blow a bit of air into it. Use the rubber band to close the head so that the water doesn’t escape.

Now you’re ready to add your finished jellyfish to the bottle! Fill the bottle 3/4 full with water. Add a few drops of food coloring and replace the lid. Shake to mix the food coloring throughout the bottle.

Push the jellyfish into the bottle and use the skewer to push it all the way to the bottom. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with water. Glue the lid onto the top.

As you turn the bottle upside down, the jellyfish will float back to the top. It is so cool!

And because you can never do too many jellyfish crafts, let’s make some jellyfish lights.
