- Give a warm bath. Baths do such a great job and relaxing our bodies. For little one’s aches and pains can be almost unbearable and having a warm bath can help. I even like to add a few drops of essential oil to the baths for my little ones. I live a combination of lemon and lavender.
- Get accurate temperature readings frequently. One of the important things to do when your baby has a fever is to watch the fever. Most of the time a fever is just a natural response to your child fighting an infection such as the cold or flu bug. However, you want to watch it to make sure it doesn’t go beyond the normal fever level. For a child, one of the easiest and most accurate ways to measure their temperate is rectally. - Dress lightly. While you may think your child is cold due to their fever, the best thing to do is avoid any additional blankets or clothing. They really need a light onesie or pajamas and then a small sheet. Anything more than that can actually make their fever worse and we don’t want that!
- Keep your child hydrated. When your infant is sick the best thing you can do is offer fluids. If they are still breastfeeding and/or on formula, offer it to them often but don’t force it. Even a little at a time goes a long way in helping keep them hydrated.
- Give your child a fever reducer. Aside from the fever itself, chills and aches and pains are rough. You can give a fever reducer to help ease some of the symptoms and bring the fever down.
