Simple Letter Tracing Art Project as Writing Practice

Hands On As We Grow http://ift.tt/2ey1m5E

This quick-to-prep activity is one that will look great on the wall or in a window. But it also helps your kids practice writing their alphabet. We’re excited to partner with VTech® and as we used The Touch & Learn Activity Desk™ Deluxe by VTech® for this, you’ll see just how slick it is!

It takes a lot of fine motor development for a child to be able to write their letters. And this activity helps them practice writing, while painting…with Q-tips!

To prep for this activity, grab a piece of paper (I suggest a light colored card stock) and a pencil.

Lightly draw a design on the paper. For example, a squiggly line, a happy face, a heart, or some circles. Or if you want to get really creative, even a flower or a sun.

Draw the letters of the alphabet over the design.

Then erase the design so that only the letters will remain.

This method creates that art element using the letters of the alphabet to form the design. It’s alphabet art!

Gather your paints, Q-tips, some cups or a plate (I actually just used the containers the paint came in). Also grab some napkins and choose a painting surface.

A great surface for kids to paint on is a vertical surface. This helps with hand-eye coordination, pencil grasp, and spatial awareness.

VTech® has an awesome product for this called the VTech® Touch & Learn Activity Desk™ Deluxe. It’s a 3-in-1 desk with interactive activity cards. The desk transforms from a desk into a vertical easel and chalkboard. It even has storage space for art supplies to encourage play and discovery.

It includes five activity pages to explore that are filled with engaging curriculum. Not just for learning letters, but numbers & counting, music, colors, and even the human body.

Additionally, there are eight expansion packs (each sold separately). Each pack focuses on essential preschool and kindergarten learning skills for 3 to 5 year olds (such as nursery rhymes, reading skills, animals, careers, and many more).

The vertical easel and storage space is perfect for this alphabet art activity!

Simply attach your alphabet design paper into the easel clip (I would add a piece of tape on the back of the paper as well).

It may help to show your child how to use the Q-tips to paint/trace the letters to form the design.

Then, let the tracing and painting begin!

Another great feature of the the VTech® Touch & Learn Activity Desk™ Deluxe is the music player! It plays some really fun tunes.

My preschooler really enjoyed listening to the variety of musical options, all while painting and tracing the alphabet with his Q-tips.

I would recommend having a lot of Q-tips and napkins on hand as my kids went through a lot of them.

Also, I showed them how to lay down the Q-tips on the paper when they went to use another color.

Once your child finishes tracing their letters, just remove the paper and supplies from the easel. Let it dry before proudly displaying your kiddo’s alphabet art.

As an added bonus, I have found that any paint that gets on the VTech® Touch & Learn Activity Desk™ Deluxe easily comes off!

For even more alphabet practice, the VTech® Touch & Learn Activity Desk™ Deluxe provides a built in chalkboard for your preschooler to practice writing their letters. Or they can grow deeper in their learning with the built in interactive alphabet desktop with a wide range of alphabet activities.

It also has an LED display, which illustrates letter strokes for visual writing practice.

The Vtech Touch and Learn Activity Desk Deluxe™ is a favorite for my kids to play with. It offers such vast curriculum options for hours of fun as my kids create, discover, and learn.

The VTech® Touch & Learn Activity Desk™ Deluxe also features number stroke order, how to draw basic shapes, and for another way to play, your child can pretend to make a call on the toy telephone.

They could even pretend to call a relative to tell them about the alphabet art they just made!

Honestly, the VTech® Touch & Learn Activity Desk™ Deluxe is a favorite for my kids to play with. It offers such vast curriculum options for hours of fun as my kids create, discover, and learn.

This truly awesome learning tool is available at most major retailers: Target, Amazon, Toys R Us, and Walmart.  It sells for only $54.99 and each additional activity pack is only $9.99.

It is also super kid-friendly to put together; so we made the assembly into a hands-on activity as well!
