I love the idea of passing objects through something else.

It builds concentration, fine motor control with hand steadiness, and just seems cool to me.

I always have tape on hand, right? So I grabbed several rolls of tape, in all different sizes. From painter’s tape, masking tape, to washi tape and electrical tape. It all works! (I especially love washi tape – affiliate link – because the hole is so small.)

Passing objects through one another... such a simple way to strengthen little hands!

I’ve tried this passing objects activity a couple of times with a couple of my kids and it hasn’t always been the biggest success. Maybe it’s a mood thing, or maybe it’s not really a hit. You tell me (in the comments below!).

Ideally, I’d love to have a couple kids doing it at the same time and race against each other, but that hasn’t been in our cards lately. George and I played alone this time, and he loved it.

Create a mini obstacle course!

Standing the tape up on its side is a fine motor activity in itself!

But the real fun is in sticking objects, like a straw or craft stick, through the hole in the center of the tape rolls… and grabbing it with your other hand.

And then moving on to the next tape roll.

There’s really no right or wrong way to set it up.

Line the tape rolls up in a row or spread them out.

You could even put them on the floor and further apart to crawl to the next one. Or blow a pom pom through the holes! How fun would that be?

Lining up all the tape rolls and passing it through was much trickier than one at a time.

Louis eventually made it work.

I’d love to hear if you try this activity and if it’s a hit with your kids or not. Let me know in the comments.
