This DIY for carpet odors is one of the best things around. It takes less than a couple minutes to make, costs pennies and works wonders. If you are like me and have a dog that is constantly tracking dirt in and odor in along with a kid or two doing the same, you are going to love this.
Easily Banish Carpet Odors
Variations of this recipe have been around for a bit, but I have on important ingredient that makes it so much better than all the others.
Ingredients:
- Borax
- Baking Soda
- Assure essential oil (10 drops)
- Lemon essential oil (5 drops)
The key ingredient here that makes this recipe so perfect is the Epoch Assure essential oil. This blend specifically neutralizes odors. It’s a combination of cinnamon, clove, orange, lemon, lime, ginger and more. The aromas are strong and powerful.
I also add in lemon for an extra fresh scent and because lemon on it’s own can help to remove odors. These two oils together are magic!
All you need to do is combine equal parts Borax and baking soda then add in oils and stir with a fork. To cover the carpeted areas on the main floor of my house I use 1/3 cup of each. I would start with that amount and increase it as needed.
You can make this in large batches and save for when you need it, but I prefer to make it individually each time. I typically use it about once a month (maybe more often if I’m having company over and want the house to smell great.)
Sprinkle the mixture all over your carpets and let it sit for at least an hour. You can leave it all night if you’d like! Then, vacuum it up. Your carpets will smell so fresh and give your house a lovely scent.
