When I was a child, my girl scout troop used to roast Spider Dogs on the campfire during campouts. The same technique can be replicated at home sans campfire to provide a silly, fun lunch for kids! Paired with fresh corn on the cob, fruit, and bread, this lunch makes kids very happy!

Begin by slicing regular hotdogs four ways on one side (like a criss cross). Repeat on the other end. Be careful not to cut through the middle!

If you are going to be enjoying lunch with an older child, preparing spider dogs will give them some excellent cutting practice. Even younger children could use a butter knife to easily prepare the hot dogs.

Place the cut hot dogs in boiling water, and cook as directed on the package.

If you plan to roast Spider Dogs over a campfire, insert a long roasting stick through the middle of the hot dog.

As the hot dogs cook, the cut ends curl up making it look as though the hot dog has 8 legs—just like a spider!

Remove the hot dogs from the boiling water with a slotted spoon. If desired, use ketchup and mustard to draw eyes on the spider.

Serve and enjoy, then eat perfect chocolate chip cookies for dessert!
