This is a super fun Frisbee toss using only two supplies; baby bowl lids and some tape.
This indoor or outdoor game works on gross motor skills, ordinal number recognition (1st, 2nd, 3rd), basic addition, and friendly competition.
If your child loves to play games, here are some additional homemade game ideas.
Game set-up:
Grab some painter’s tape and the lids that come with the plastic baby bowls (affiliate link) you most likely have stashed in the kitchen somewhere. Any flat lids will work for this though.
*If you don’t have any baby bowl lids, you could also use paper plates or little plastic toy Frisbees.
After you have located your tape and lids, just stick three lines of tape onto the ground about a foot apart from each other, and grab your little one(s).
The rules are simple:
decide upon a starting point to stand behind, choose who gets to toss first, and then toss the lids toward the taped lines.
Each player will toss all of the lids before the next player begins.
You’ll be surprised how well they fly through the air!
How to earn points:
A player earns points by tossing their lids and having them end up on top of the three lines.
If a lid lands on top of the first line (closest to the starting point) it is worth one point, the second line is worth two points, and the third line is worth three points. The lid must land on top of a line to earn points.
The game below would be scored as two points for a lid on the second line and three points for a lid on the third line. The total points for this Frisbee toss would be five points.
How to win:
After one player has tossed all of their lids, add up their points based on the lines on which their lids landed.
After each person has tossed and totaled their points, the person with the most points wins.
If you feel that the “game” approach is too much for your preschooler or you want to simplify for your toddler, then you can simply have them toss the lids to the lines without worrying about points or just use one line instead of three.
Bonus Lid Activity:
You could also use the bowl lids to place them on top of a homemade light box. I just made one for my kiddos and it is a hit!
The light makes the bowl lids glow and its a great opportunity to discuss transparency, colors, shadows, and your preschooler could even practice tracing the lids on a piece of paper.
