Kids Activities Blog http://ift.tt/2wEPhAJ Using Essential Oils in Toothpaste

If you’re looking for a way to make homemade toothpaste, using essential oils may have crossed your mind. Is it safe to use essential oils for a whiter smile? The answer is yes, as long as you put some thought and consideration into it. Here’s what you need to know about using essential oils in toothpaste.

Choosing the Right Essential Oils

If you are thinking about making homemade toothpaste, it’s important to put some thought into the essential oils you will use. Be sure to research ahead of time to make sure the essential oils you are using are safe for consumption. Even though you won’t want to ingest your essential oil toothpaste, you don’t want to choose essential oils that are dangerous for consumption in case you do end up swallowing any.

In addition to choosing essential oils that have a flavor you’ll enjoy, you also will want to consider using essential oils that offer antiseptic properties. This will help eliminate the bacteria in your mouth and prevent you from developing gum disease.

So, what essential oils should you consider using in your homemade toothpaste? Peppermint, spearmint, orange, cinnamon, and lavender can all be great options!

Child-Friendly Essential Oil Toothpaste

If you’re making homemade toothpaste that your child can use, you will want to make sure that you are using child-friendly essential oils, such as spearmint essential oil or orange essential oil. Keep in mind that you should not allow your child to use your DIY toothpaste unless they are old enough to know to spit it out.

Making Your Homemade Toothpaste

As always, you will never want to use undiluted essential oils to brush your teeth. This is why it’s important to use other ingredients in your toothpaste. So, what should you put in your toothpaste?

For starters, you will want to blend your essential oil with a carrier oil. Coconut oil is one of the best option when it comes to toothpaste. It is known to help whiten teeth.

Baking soda is another ingredient you will want to use in your toothpaste. Not only does it work as an antiseptic, but it also is a natural tooth whitener. This is also what will give your toothpaste that foamy froth that will make it easy to brush with.

Unrefined sea salt is another ingredient that can make a great addition to your DIY toothpaste, as it contains important minerals that can help strengthen enamel.

These are just some tips on using essential oils safely in toothpaste. If you are a pregnant woman, you will want to double check with your doctor before using an essential oil toothpaste.
