Making and shaping pom poms is one of my 8yo daughter’s favorite things to do. She was in overdrive at the weekend, making a troop of cutie pom pom pals, her favorite being this purple pom pom with pigtails and kissy lips! Her name is Dana xx
I captured the magic of her making on my iphone….

All you need to make your own pom pom pals:
–Large Pom Pom Maker (the Clover ones my daughter uses are SO easy for kids to master, you can of course use cardboard circles or other store bought makers)
–Thick wool (less winding to fill the pom pom for kids – less chance of them getting distracted in the middle of making!!)
–Buttons
–Rainbow loom bands for the pigtails
-Paper and black marker
-Scissors and glue (fabric glue is best)
Start by making the pom pom
When made gather two tufts of the wool and tie into pigtails and trim around the rest of the pom pom to neaten off the edges into a ball.
Lay out your button collection to pick the perfect eyes for your pal.
And press and hold them in place for a few minutes while the glue takes hold.
Finally on a sheet of paper Miss8 started drawing faces and mouths to decide what Dana’s expression and lips should be like – lips make the face in our house!
When she had what she considered the perfect lips she cut them out with the scissors and glued them onto the face.
And Voila!, you have the cutest pom pom pal ever!
By changing hairstyles, buttons and lips the possibilities are limitless for your children to create a whole host of pom pom pals of their own.
You know when a craft is a success when less than an hour after you are finished you hear “mom can I make another pom pom?”. Love it xx
Happy Crafting
Michelle
