R is for Ribbons Letter R Activity is an activity that involves children cutting up small pieces of ribbon and gluing them onto the space of a letter R.
Making a letter R covered in ribbons is a simple and a fun activity that provides the opportunity to expose children to the R, identify what the letter R looks like and what sound it makes.
I have incorporated a free printable for this activity in both cursive and standard print. The dotted letters provides the opportunity for children to practise reading and writing as they trace over the dotted letters.
What you will need?
You will need assortment of coloured ribbons , PVA craft glue, glue brush or pop stick and R is for Ribbons Printable.

To complete the activity children use the glue brush to paint on the PVA craft glue into the space of the letter R. It is best to place the glue onto the paper and not apply the glue to ribbon. Children then fill the letter R space with ribbons. Add extra glue to paper as needed to ensure all the ribbons are glued down.
Some Ideas:
- On the printable, ask your child to circle all the letter R or r that they can find.
- When the letter R is completed and dry, you may like to cut it out and glue it onto paper that has been painted red paint and rollers. R is for ribbons, rollers and red paint.
- Talk about other words that begin with the letter R, such as robot, rice and rooster.
- Watch videos on YouTube that are about the letter R.
- Look into a mirror and watch how your lips are moving to make the R sound.

Cutting the ribbon lengths to fit into the space of the letter R is a great opportunity for practising scissor skills.

The dotted letters provides the opportunity for children to practise reading and writing as they trace over the dotted letters. Encourage good pencil grip and support your child’s hand if necessary when writing.

R is for Red Rice – Letter R Activity
Another alternative to the collaging the letter R with ribbons is red rice. To complete the activity children use the glue brush to paint on the PVA craft glue into the space of the letter R. and sprinkle the red rice onto the wet glue. Shake off any excess rice.
