This Chickadee Shapes Craft is the perfect activity for a spring day.
It’s a simple craft and a great opportunity to teach the little ones about a few shapes.
There is nothing I like more during spring than hearing the little chickadees chirping and fluttering around in our trees. They are such cute, plump little birds and the inspiration for this chickadee shapes craft!
Chickadee Shapes Craft
Here’s what you need to make this Chickadee Shapes Craft:
- Construction paper (colors of your choice)
- Colored Popsicle sticks
- Googly eyes
- Glue
- Scissors
To make these chickadees, cut the following shapes from the construction paper:
Note* Quantity listed is per chickadee
1 large oval (chickadee body)
1 medium oval (chickadee chest)
2 large triangles (chickadee wings)
1 small triangle (chickadee beak)
To assemble the chickadees start by gluing the medium sized oval onto the large oval. Now is a great time to add the googly eyes! Glue them on just above the medium oval. Then, glue the small triangle with the point down just under the eyes. It should slightly overlap the oval (chickadee chest). Now your cute little birdy has a beak!
For the wings, simply glue the large triangles along the sides of each chickadee “body”. Allow the glue to dry for a minute or so. Flip the chickadee over and glue a popsicle stick to the back.
This is such a cute craft and your preschoolers won’t even realize that they are learning their shapes when assembling it. You can also work on colors, size sorting and fine motor skills while putting this Chickadee Shapes Craft together.
