Need a quick and fun snack or dessert idea for your kids? These Dirt Cups just might do the trick.
Our Cookies and Cream Funfetti Bark is another simple and fast recipe your kids will love.
The first time I had Dirt Cups was when I was in third grade. I was at my friend Brittany’s house for a day of swimming. Her mom made Dirt Cups for us. She put it in a real terra-cotta planter and put an arrangement of plastic flowers in the center. I was totally fooled. I actually gasped when she dipped a spoon into, what I thought was dirt, and then ate it.
I can remember actually falling into a fit of giggles with my friend when we realized it was really just pudding and Oreo cookies. Needless to say it was a big hit for us.
I decided to make this for my children recently. This Dirt Cups recipe is simple and delicious.
Dirt Cups
Ingredients:
- 1 package Oreos
- 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1 8 oz container Cool Whip
- decorations such as gummy worms, candy bugs or frogs, silk flowers
*I made individual Dirt Cups, so I put them in small clear cups. Above is my finished Dirt Cup. These Dirt Cups didn’t last long at my house, and I even made extras.
First, put the Oreos in a large plastic bag and crush. You want them to be completely crushed so that the finished product really looks like dirt. I used a rolling pin to help crush mine. (If you have a fancy food processor, it would make your life a lot easier!) Then, whisk together 2 cups of cold milk with the chocolate pudding mix. Whisk for about 2 minutes or until completely mixed together. Next, mix in the Cool Whip and ¼ of the crushed Oreos. Place a small amount of crushed Oreos into the bottom of your container(s), then top with the pudding mixture. Now, cover the top with the rest of your crushed Oreos and decorate as you like. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
