Mozzarella Cheese Bites are the perfect snack for little hands (or big hands)!
This week when I made lasagna, I had a bunch of mozzarella cheese left over. My kids love it when I use the left over cheese to make Cheese Bites. For this recipe I used mozzarella, but you can use any cheese.
Mozzarella Cheese Bites
Here’s what you need to make Mozzarella Cheese Bites:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (this will make approximately 10 cheese bites)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 1/2 cup Panko Italian bread crumbs
- Vegetable Oil for frying, I used Grapeseed
- optional, Marinara sauce for dipping
Shred cheese. Using your hands, make bite-sized balls of cheese. Pressing the cheese together in your hands will help it form into a ball.
In a small bowl, beat egg. Dip cheese balls into the egg mixture, coating evenly. Allow excess egg to drip off.
In a separate bowl, add bread crumbs. Roll egg-dipped cheese balls into the Panko bread crumbs, coating evenly.
Repeat egg and bread crumb dipping to coat a second time.
Place on a lined baking sheet and freeze for 2 hours. Don’t skip this! It allows the cheese to harden so it doesn’t ooze out when you fry it.
Heat oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Working in small batches, fry the cheese balls approximately 1 minute then flip and cook another minute to minute and a half.
Remove cooked cheese balls to a paper towel lined plate and serve immediately.
