With Valentine’s Day nearing you might be wondering what you can get everyone on your list. After all, it’s a day where you can make everyone you adore feel special. So today we are partnering with Reddi-wip to share this Red Velvet Cake Balls recipe with you. Plus, we have a totally cute “You’ve Got Mail” Valentine idea including a free printable to go along with the recipe! It’s all part of our mission with Reddi-wip to #ShareTheJoy this Valentine’s Day!

What you will need to make Red Velvet Cake Balls:

  • Red Velvet Cake Mix (plus ingredients needed listed on box)
  • 8 oz. Package of Cream Cheese
  • 1 Cup Reddi-wip® Extra Creamy Dairy Whipped Topping (about 4 seconds when pressing the nozzle)
  • 1 Package of Dark Chocolate Morsels (you can also use regular or white chocolate)
  • Red Sugar Sprinkles (optional)
  • Microwave Safe Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie Sheet

How to Make Red Velvet Cake Balls:

  1. Bake your cake according to the directions on the package. Tip: If you want a really easy removal once the cake is baked, simply rub the entire inside of the cake pan with shortening then dust with all-purpose flour. Tap the pan over the sink to remove any excess flour then pour the batter into the pan. It works perfectly every time!
  2. Prepare your cookie sheet by lining it with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Once your cake is baked and cooled, you can lift it out of the pan and start crumbling the cake while placing pieces into a large bowl. I actually placed the pieces into the bowl for my stand mixer but you can just use your hands in a large bowl too.red velvet cake balls steps
  4. Add the Reddi-wip into the bowl along with the cream cheese.
  5. Start mixing until the cake mixture starts to stick to itself. If you are using a stand mixer this will take you about 5 minutes.
  6. Use your hands to form little cake balls about 1-2 inches in diameter. Once the balls are formed, place them on the cookie sheet.
  7. Place the entire cookie sheet in the freezer for 20-30 minutes until the cake balls get nice and firm.
  8. Melt the chocolate morsels in the microwave. Be careful not to burn your chocolate. Simply heat for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat until the chocolate is melted enough to drizzle.
  9. Use the spoon to dip the frozen cake balls in the melted chocolate. I find it is easier to drizzle the chocolate over the top of the frozen cake ball. Then tap lightly to remove any excess chocolate.
  10. Once your cake balls are dipped in chocolate, place them back onto the cookie sheet (covered with parchment paper) and place into the refrigerator to harden. If you are using sprinkles now is the time to apply them while the chocolate is still melted.
  11. As soon as the chocolate has hardened remove from the fridge. You can then place the red velvet cake balls into small cupcake liners and place into a fun little mailbox for gift giving.red velvet cake balls in mailbox
  12. Don’t forget to use our free printable “You’ve Got Mail” tag. You can attach it right to the mailbox!

I’ll warn you, these are quite addicting. They are so creamy and chocolaty that it’s hard to eat just one!

There are so many ways to make cake balls but I really love my secret ingredient: The Reddi-wip® Extra Creamy Dairy Whipped Topping! I truly think it gives an extra creamy and richness to the cake balls. You will just have to try it and see!

Share Your Love for Chocolate This Valentine’s Day

Sure you can go into a store and purchase cake balls or homemade chocolates for Valentine’s Day but isn’t the gift even better when it’s homemade? I sure think so!

That is why I encourage you to make your own and spread the love and ultimate joy on the biggest love filled holiday of the year. A “Bake it Forward” type thing.

Guess what? We are participating in the “Bake it Forward” mission with Reddi-wip!

We are celebrating hard workers and bring some cheer to someone who deserves a treat. That’s exactly what this recipe is all about.  Then we’ll ask our friends to share the leftover cake balls with others who deserve a treat to share the joy.red velvet cake balls collage
